Singer Billy Joel was the man responsible for this song. Two years after he wrote and recorded it, he married Christie Brinkley. A backgrounder on the song showed that the when he wrote it, he was actually dating Brinkley fellow supermodel, Australian Elle McPherson. He once described his relationship with McPherson as an on and off liaison. They were not even engaged when he wrote the song. They simply dated. At that time, Elle was only 19 years old.
